Denizli hosted a historic day in the Recep Yazıcıoğlu Sports Hall as 3600 athletes competed in eight tatamis during the karate event, which began on April 25 and will continue until April 30 - the period with the highest athlete attendance in Turkey.
The opening ceremony of the Turkey Children's Karate Championship was held at the Recep Yazıcıoğlu Sports Hall in Denizli. Denizli Governor's Deputy Mehmet Okur, Merkezefendi District Governor Dr. Adem Uslu, President of the Karate Federation Aslan Abid Uğuz, Youth and Sports Provincial Director Ömer İlman, National Education Provincial Director Süleyman Ekici, PAU SKS Department Head Hakan Cantürk, ASKF President Ayşe Sarıkaya, institution directors, athletes and their families attended the program. After a moment of silence and national anthem, speeches were made.
Youth and Sports Provincial Director Ömer İlman said that they were happy to bring the Turkey Karate Championship to Denizli and wished for fair competition on the field and friendship and brotherhood outside the field. Ilman added that he believed the young people competing here would be the pride of our country in European and World Championships and Olympics in the future as athletes wearing the crescent and star emblem.
Denizli Governor's Deputy Mehmet Okur said, "We have thousands of our athletes, coaches and valued guests from all over beautiful Turkey in the karate branch." and he noted sports as a force that unites all segments of society and increases their perseverance and determination. During the 6-day championship, Okur wished for the winner to be friendship and for winners and losers to applaud each other, and wished for the athletes to leave Denizli with beautiful memories.
The first two days of the championship, which were participated by athletes born between 2009-2016, are over. The championship, which started with kata competitions, continues with kumite matches according to weight classes.
