Isparta province's "Eğirdir Yeniden Ardıç Kokacak" project, which aims to bring back juniper trees around Lake Eğirdir, underwent its weeding process on the planted fragrant juniper seedlings in the Bağbuyan location of the Sorkuncak village, three years after they were originally planted.
The social responsibility project was prepared collaboratively between the Juniper Volunteers and the Isparta Applied Sciences University. Supported by the Governorship of Eğirdir, the Municipality of Eğirdir, and the Forest Management Directorate of Eğirdir, the fragrant juniper seedlings had grown over the course of the project, and were now ready for maintenance.
During the program, District Governor Adem Çelik joined the working employees in the gardening process while chatting with them and wishing them success.
Saniye Domaç, Forestry Management Director of Eğirdir and responsible for the afforestation and soil conservation division, shared information about the situation of the 3,800 fragrant juniper seedlings that were planted on 4.5 hectares of land in the Bağbuyan meadow of Sorkuncak village, under the management of Eğirdir Forest Operations Directorate. "Three years ago, we brought our 3,800 juniper seedlings to the soil of the Eğirdir Forest Operations Directorate in the Sorkuncak village Bağbuyan location across a 4.5-hectare area. This year, the third weeding operation is being carried out with the support of the Governorship of Eğirdir, the Municipality of Eğirdir, and Juniper Volunteers. We do the weeding and hoeing processes with the help of our workers to ensure that our seedlings receive enough water and nutrients from the soil, as well as to remove the weeds within a 10-centimeter radius around the seedlings. For the 60-80 centimeter radius, we implement a hoeing process. In the first year, we used the hoeing process from the outside towards the inside, to avoid damaging the roots of the seedlings; whereas last year and this year, we have done the opposite; the hoeing process from the inside out.
